Jackson County IN - Shieldstown Covered Bridge
1701 E 300 N
Seymour, IN 47274

With Bell's Ford Bridge not being there we weren't terribly confident Shieldstown Bridge would be up.  It was just down river from Bell's Ford.  Rather than go back into town back onto to U.S. 50 we took some back roads and had to maneuver around some gravel roads that were partially floating away.  Basically the route is out IN258past Cortland and turn left onto CR100 and left when that dead ends.  This will take you right to the bridge with no gravel.  The bridge stands just upriver from the new one which is CR200E spanning the East Fork of the White River.  The Burr Arch bridge built in 1876 spans 331' which is quite impressive for this area and is by far the longest in the tri-state area we have been on by over 100' relative to Black's Bridge in Oxford at 209'.  The bridge was built by J.J. Daniels, who is one of the most famous covered bridge builders in Indiana.  After viewing the bridge we headed east on U.S. 50 and home.
