Day Four – Copper Harbor to Galena IL
Miles: 472
Elapsed Time: 11:08

The motel had a little restaurant attached to it so we ate breakfast there and it worked out great. We were back on US41 headed south until we turned on to Lake La Belle Rd and began down the eastern or really southern shore of the upper finger of the UP. We rode through the towns of Lake La Belle and Gay as we followed the coastline but we were quickly back inland headed toward Houghton. We stopped at the Quincy Dredge and the old Quincy Stamp Mill all of which are in various states of decomposition.

Back across the Portage Canal Lift Bridge we were headed south on MI26. Little small towns and a network of snowmobile trails made up the majority of the landscape. Not the best riding roads but the scenery was nice. Once we neared Rockland we joined up with US45. The scenery didn’t change much as we passed into WS at Land O’ Lakes but the smell of cheese was in the air. South of Bloomfield WS on WI 17 we stopped at Hay Meadow County Park. Not much of a stop but it was needed to stretch our legs a bit. Our next stop was at Wayside Park on WI 21 just below the Pentenwell Dam. One last stop before the IL border at a nice state line park before we got to Galena seemed in order. Once in Galena we checked at the hotel and started exploring the town. The Main Street Inn was really nice and the manager met us and gave us a little tour and showed us everything at our disposal such as the snack and coffee in the common area. Really nice place. Parking was in the street which was little concern, but in the end it was completely fine. We went to the Galena Brewing Co. on Main St and had some of the best wings I have ever had. The beer was good as well, but the wings took the prize. We got a growler and headed back to the room and sat in the common area talking with some other folks from France who were touring the US. Not the best riding day but overall a good day especially with the Galena Brewing Co. wings.
