Ice, Wind & Fire
5,106 Miles

We rode on the Going to the Sun Road in 1998 and we have tried three different times since then to ride it again and each time we had the opportunity to ride it the pass was engulfed in rain. So, in 2024 we decided rather than ride by it one day and hope it is clear we made it our destination. We would have three possible days to ride it so we kept our fingers crossed and headed west. The name of the trip came to us as we rode through several weather challenges. As we rode into Sheridan and Ranchester WY the temperature reached 104F (Fire), the next morning as rode into the Big Horn Mountains the temperature was down in the mid 40s (Ice), and as we approached Glacier we were nearly blown off the road in the strongest cross winds we have ever ridden in (Wind). All in all the weather was quite nice. We had one really hot day but we encountered very little rain only having to don our rain suits once. Also on this trip we decided to go back a little to our roots as far as nightly accommodations were concerned. We did still stay at some Hamptons and they are always good but we decided to spend the night at some establishments and some cities where a Hampton was not possible. Seven nights out of eleven were non Hampton nights and the range in hotels/motels ranged dramatically.
