Day One & Two– Cincinnati to Ouray Thursday and Friday
Steve found out at the relative last minute that he had business to attend to that would make it impossible for him to ride out with us, and he would have to leave after Monday’s ride. So, the two boys, Ralph, Mike, and myself loaded up on Thursday morning and took off. Ralph had set up his big F-350 with a camper and secured a trailer to pull the eight bikes and all of the gear. Steve would fly to Denver on Friday, rent a car and meet us in Ouray. We left Mike’s house in the late morning and drove until we encountered our first problem which unfortunately was only slightly into Indiana. The trailer’s tires were not quite prepared to handle such a heavy load, and we had to replace them along the way. We made the best of it, and by the time we hit Illinois we were in good shape. We rotated drivers, but as normal Mike took the biggest load of driving. We drove straight through and reached Oakley KS early in the morning on Friday. By the time we made Canon City we we were in touch with Steve and figured he would catch by about Montrose. So, the timing was perfect, and we pulled into the KOA in Ouray around dinner time. We settled in and the anticipation began. Mike’s brother John made it to camp late that evening and now everything was in place.
