December 2006
Franklin County IN - Stockheughter Covered Bridge
27042 Enochsburg Rd
Batesville, IN 47006
Even deeper into December and it's still getting into the 60ºs. I don't buy into the whole premise of human caused global warming, but if this is the result, mark me down as being in favor. We decided to catch three bridges in Indiana. The first one was one exit on I-74 west of Bateseville and just north of the interstate. We took exit 143 and went north for probably not much more than a mile and turned right on Base Line Road. Once in Enochsburg it is necessary to bear to the left in order to stay on Enochsburg Road where we paralleled the Salt Creek and eventually spot the bridge. It is in decent shape and still carries traffic but has been modernized with concrete and steel supports. It was built in 1887 with a Howe Truss and spans 92' over Salt Creek in Franklin County.
