Spring to West Jefferson & Maggie Valley

We somehow missed taking a 3-dayer in 2010 so we decided to take two in 2011 and we started with a trip to West Jefferson NC and continued on to Maggie Valley.

We rode through Kentucky and Virginia at Cumberland Gap to get into Tennessee. Our target for the day was Iron Mt and "The Snake" also known as US 421. Its always a great road to ride and this year did not dissappoint. Up and over and we were in Mountain City and nearly to West Jefferson. Not much to do in West Jefferson in 2011 but we had a nice meal and went back to the Hampton. On day two we rode a fair amount on the Blue Ridge Parkway and some on NC215 where we stopped at an old steel bridge just below Lake Logan re-visiting a stop from 2002. We ended our day in Maggie Valley at the Holiday Motel. We had ridden by this beauty of a 1950s mom and pop motel many times and always wanted to stay there. We were two of many riders staying there for the night and after we got back from our walk to dinner, we sat down on the porch drank a few a beers relaxing to the sounds of the spring and other riders discussing a variety of topics. On Sunday we wanted to get home at a decent time, but we first had to ride Cherohala which is always a treat. We stopped on the west of the track and then rode home from there pretty much non-stop.
