Day Five – Ingonish NS to Stephenville NL
Miles: 276

Today we were going to be catching the ferry so we didn't have to be Ibn big hurry but we clearly had a deadline. We started with a nice breakfast at a restaurant next door to the motel; the Bean Barn Cafe. It was probably our best breakfast of the entire trip. We headed south on Cabot Trail and saw more evidence of the poor road conditions, but at least there was no active construction. We had planned to take the small ferry over to over to Englishtown, but we soon learned it was closed, so we continued on toward St Anns where we stopped at a small Provincial Park. Nothing much to see here but we poked around and were soon on our way. Since we had time we detoured and went back up to Englishtown to duplicate another pic from 2005. We made our last stop near the foot of the Seal Island Bridge. It wasn't much of a stop but we needed to kill a little time. We finished the ride to the ferry and were a little surprised when we were waved directly on board. We thought we arrived one hour before the 12:15 departure time but in fact the departure time was 12:15 in Port-Aux-Basques which meant we only had 30 minutes. Not a big deal but that could have been a little dicey if we had been cutting it close. The good news was we rode into the ferry unloaded our things and we were shortly on our way. We had reserved the First Class seats which only slightly more expensive than the general seating. The price was well worth it as we basically had the place to ourselves. We were able to spread out and really relax. The ferry arrived to PAB just before 7:00 local and we hit the ground running. We blasted up the Trans Canada Highway and were soon stopping for gas near our motel. They didn't have nay beer to go so we stopped down the street at the Liquor Store and we were back on our way to the motel. The Dhoon Lodge and Pet Resort not only had rooms but also touted a bar and restaurant open late. So, of course we had a couple of beers at the bar while we waited for our wings to get done. The bar was closing, which seemed odd, so we took our food back to the room.
